In Sanlitun, Beijing, a retail space of 15 m2 was designed by KANTOOR to fit a vintage shop specialized in clothing. Considering the size of the space, and its lack of storage, it will mainly function as a showroom and display space since most of the items can be purchased on line. The main design approach relies on the Moroccan bazaar style with its varieties of textures and colour contrasts enhancing the feeling of being remotely from where it is actually is located.
Functionally the shop keeps a clear circulation in the centre using the walls to integrate all the fixtures. The clothes will be hanging from a black metal bar mounted on the ceiling with a shelf for displaying both above and beneath the hanging items. The counter will be custom made with two bottom drawers for the storage of bags and promotional items with two open top drawers for displaying small accessories. As a complement to the other functions, a large display cabinet is opposite to the entrance and its wood brings up a warm atmosphere to the space.
All the materials selected are a variety of colours, patterns and lighting effects inspired by the Moroccan bazaar. A colour floor tile contrasts the beige pattern wallpaper creating a neutral background for the product´s display. Various sets of orange fabrics drape the ceiling and walls, embracing both as one element and, finally, at the entrance a glass door with a bright blue frame connects the interior wallpaper with the white outdoor façade.
