In the basement of a newly built commercial compound in the Wangjing district of Beijing KANTOOR designed a multifunctional office space for Paras, a model agency. The space has two skylights to provide natural light and will be used for daily work and occasional model castings. To optimize the natural daylight all-white materials have been selected. Materials with different textures are used to generate a variety within the same colour tone. Wood accents and small trees have been added to create a warm feeling in the white interior. Two different tones of terrazzo on the floor separate the working area from the corridor which double functions as a catwalk for model castings. At the end of the catwalk a plain white wall functions as a background to take photographs of the models. The photos of the models are showcased along the meeting table in a custom designed picture wall. The pantry and printer are located close to the workstations and hidden from the public meeting area. The back wall of the office is covered with cabinets providing space for portfolio storage on the open shelves while the enclosed upper- and lower cabinets store the general office supplies and documents.
